Important Ministries

Brazilian Book Chamber (Câmara Brasileira
do Livro or CBL) represents more than 500 associates in Brazil. Its mission is to expand the Brazilian publishing market through the democratisation of book access and promotion of actions to disseminate and encourage reading.

Brazilian Association of Reprographic Rights (Associação Brasileira de Direitos Reprográficos or ABDR) is a non-profit civil association that gathers several Brazilian publishers in defence of copyrights and editorials.

Brazilian Association of School Book Publishers­
(Associação Brasileira de Editores de Livros or BRELIVROS) represents publishing houses dealing with textbook titles in front of the state and federal governments, with the purpose of improving the national Textbooks Programs (Programas Nacionais de Livros Didáticos or PNLD) and the various school reading programmes.

National Union of Book Publishers (Sindicato Nacional dos Editores de Livros or SNEL) aims to study and coordinate editorial activities, as well as the protection and legal representation of the category of book publishers and cultural publications throughout Brazil.

Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (FLIP) held for 5 days in July.

Bienal do Livro held every year alternating between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, over 10 days in August/September.

Translation Programmes

National Library Foundation has a programme that supports the translation and publishing of Brazilian authors up to 2020.
Translation and Publication Grant Programme (TEDA) provides funding for publishers interested in publishing Brazilian authors’ works.
Brazilian Publishers promote several translation support programmes for international publishers.
